SynopTech
Bicycles Built for City Life

SynopTech is an innovative and contemporary manufacturing company, founded on the principals of design simplicity and efficiency. It fundamentally specialises in delivering compact products that succinctly meet the user requirements without over-complicating or over-engineering. SynopTech’s flagship product, The Commuter, embodies this attitude, by delivering an ergonomic, lightweight, single-speed, folding bicycle, designed specifically for commuters.
As global urbanisation levels continue to grow, the resulting high population densities are producing greater congestion and increasingly stressful journeys for commuters. The SynopTech solution is to start cycling!

a bicycle for a more efficient world
CDIO Challenge
The CDIO is a framework that provides students with an education stressing engineering fundamentals set in the context of Conceiving — Designing — Implementing — Operating (CDIO) real-world systems and products.
This Initiative was developed with input from academics, industry, engineers, and students and was specifically designed as a template that can be adapted and adopted by any university engineering school. CDIO is currently in use in university aerospace, applied physics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering departments.
Our team's goal is to compete in the CDIO Challenge at Queen's University in Belfast on 2016.
This competition requires the design of a folding bicycle according to the tasks specified by the organisation.
The following guidelines will be used to assess each bicycle:
- Acceleration from a standing start
- Timed circuit(s) of several hundred metres
- Slalom between cones (separation reducing)
- Scrutineering
- Time to unfold, ride a short distance and fold down again
- Minimum mass
- Minimum folding volume

The Commuter folds up to 136L. This is the way it does:
